Keratin Hair Straighteners

As a professional hairdresser in Noosa I am asked all the time about “Keratin Straighteners” and I find a lot of people have been mislead or have the wrong idea of what a “Keratin Straightener” is. Being a professional hairdresser in Noosa I have clients sitting in my chair thinking that what they have had done in the past is a non-chemical conditioning treatment.

This is not the case. First of all Keratin is the protein that hair is made up of, so yes this is the part that helps protect the hair and give it strength. But you would not need extra keratin in your hair if it was in perfect condition and had never had a chemical treatment.

​This takes me to the second part, that is there a keratin straightener in a non-chemical conditioning treatment? This again is just not the case. When having your hair straightened or curled for that matter, you are changing the natural structure of your hair and there are only two ways you can do this. One is semi-permanent with a blow dry, a hot roller or styling iron, this then will go back to it’s natural form when washed.
The other way is permanent and this can only be done with chemicals. This also works the same for colour. Anything that can change the natural tone, depth or structure of your hair will be done with chemicals.
